Thank you for your patience and understanding around our iPads for Learning programme.  As promised, I can now share details of our updated scheme.

Please read the following information carefully, as there are some key differences in the way our iPad programme will operate compared to previous years.

  • Please order your iPad before 11th September.  We have been very, very fortunate to have been offered a discount by Apple.  Any late orders placed from 12th September will carry the 20% price increase announced in June.
  • All iPads (11th Gen) come with a Zagg Tough Keys keyboard case, screen protector and a Skriva stylus with our suite of apps and services ready to use.
  • A range of payment options are available.  You can pay for the iPad outright, or spread the cost over up to four years.  Direct debits will be collected by ‘edde Education’.
  • Accidental damage and repair cover for the iPad is for five years regardless of the length of the payment term.  To keep costs as low as possible for the majority of iPads that never require repair, each repair incident will incur a £20 excess fee.  MendIT are our repair partner.
  • We expect to be able to hand out iPads at the end of September.

We hope that by offering you a five-year programme with different payment options over up to four years, we will keep our programme sustainable and affordable, with one iPad that will last your child all the way through to the end of Year 11.

Points to note

Our iPad programme is aimed at supporting your child’s learning at Haslingden High School. Use of the iPad (whether ordered through school or a personal device) is subject to our Student Acceptable Use agreement.

The iPad must be kept in the case at all times.  MendIT will not process any claims where there is evidence to the contrary and will charge the full cost of repair.  Please read their terms and conditions.   Each repair will incur a £20 excess fee.  Repair cover does not include iPad loss or theft; however, such instances are very rare, as we can remotely track and lock devices.  Accessories are not covered, other than by the standard manufacturer’s warranty.  Replacement styluses and keyboards will be available to purchase from our school shop.

We expect to be able to hand out iPads at the end of September. Payments in full will be taken at checkout.  The first direct debit payment to edde Education will be taken on 1 October.

iPads ordered through school are owned by parents at the end of the payment term at no additional cost.  We will keep our apps and online safety restrictions on the iPad until the end of Year 11.

Terms of Ownership

Please read the terms and conditions carefully when signing up for the scheme.  The school owns the iPad until all payments have been made. If your child leaves Haslingden High School, you must pay off the outstanding balance or return the device to us. You must keep up payments over the term of the lease.

Bring your own device – BYOD

Parents may also allow their children to bring their own iPads to school.  We welcome this but encourage parents to purchase additional insurance and a strong case.  We strongly recommend that parents buy the same or a better model to run the latest generation of apps.

If you have or are buying a personal device for your child’s use in school, you can drop it off with us and we will enrol it on our network.  Please leave the iPad at Reception with your child’s name, some contact information, and the passcode for the attention of Mrs Royal.  We will let you know when it is ready for collection.

You will need to download and install this list of apps we use in school.

Affordability

We recognise that making our iPad scheme affordable is essential to its success and we are determined that no child will miss out on the benefits where there is a genuine case of financial hardship. We ask anyone who feels they will struggle to contribute to the scheme to contact us in confidence – please contact Mr Roper in school.

Parents may, if they wish, choose not to participate in our scheme on the understanding their children will not have a personal device to take home.  We have several iPads that can be loaned and returned each day, depending on availability.

Any questions?
