Quick trip to the hospital
Last week, we kick-started our Haslingden Sixth Form ‘Next Steps’ programme with a visit from the University of Lancashire.
This week, our CTEC Health & Social Care students visited Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital for a Clinical Care ‘taster tour’!
Our students gained a valuable insight into:
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Radiology
This trip allowed the students to see the daily workings of the hospital and also provided an insight into what career pathways are available in the healthcare profession.
We’re continually seeking new and exciting educational visits to help our students get the most out of studying with us at Haslingden Sixth Form.
A huge thank you to the team at ELHT for hosting us.

Making connections
Ms Newell and Miss Duckworth attended the annual Rossendale Means Business expo, organised by Grow Traffic.
They spoke to a host of different businesses about the importance of providing work experience opportunities.
They also met the Mayor of Rossendale, Liz McInnes, to discuss all the amazing things that go on at Haslingden High School and Sixth Form.

Thinking Futures
On Thursday evening, we welcomed Year 10 students and their parents/carers to our annual Futures Evening. Further education providers from across the country came to discuss future options and answer any questions about next steps.
Guests included:
- Haslingden Sixth Form
- Lancaster University
- Myerscough College & University Centre
- Training 2000
- Accrington and Rossendale College
- Army Jobs
- Themis
- Royal Air Force
- Amazing Apprenticeships
We hope all of our students walked away from the evening feeling a little more confident about their post-16 choices.
Year 5 Taster Week
Another big choice on the horizon is the one primary school children will be making very shortly – which high school they will be going to.
This week, we welcomed Year 5 students from local primary schools to get a feel of what life is like at Haslingden High School.
From Art classes, to PE, Science, and Food Tech – the students got to try a whole host of exciting new subjects.
We hope all of our visitors had a great time at big school!

Drama on tour
In addition to Year 5 Taster Week, our Year 7 Drama Lab also went on tour to local primary schools to deliver a performance about the pressures and worries of going to high school.
Well done to our fantastic performers!

High praise in Food Tech
We had an email from a parent this week that made Miss Holt smile.
“Firstly, I wanted to say how much they are enjoying cooking classes so far. They’ve been so excited to try them at home and have made dinner of Doritos chicken wraps. I’m so glad they’re enjoying it and it’s great to see something they’re excited about to continue at home.”
Next stop: finals
Huge congratulations to our undefeated Year 9 rounders team!
They were fantastic in batting, fielding, and teamwork at the Rossendale Schools tournament earlier in the week.
Next stop: the County Finals in July. Brilliant effort, team!

LitFest lineup
This week, we announced the lineup for the 2026 HHS LitFest. View the lineup here.
