Introduction
The redevelopment proposals for Haslingden High School & Sixth Form are part of the Department for Education’s (DfE) national School Rebuilding Programme. BAM Construction have been appointed by the DfE as the building contractor to deliver the project.
The school, in partnership with BAM Construction and the DfE, are pleased to share the latest designs and are consulting the community on the proposals.
The Proposals
The DfE’s School Rebuilding Programme is focused on carrying out school rebuilding and refurbishment projects prioritised according to existing condition needs. The project is looking to take forward plans to redevelop the existing school site to provide a new sustainable school building and supporting facilities.
A comprehensive redevelopment of the school site is planned, incorporating the replacement of all the existing buildings, with the exception of the sixth form building which is to be retained. The development would be phased to allow for the school to remain open using the existing buildings, while the new school building is being constructed. The majority of school’s grass sports playing pitches on eastern side of the site would be unaffected and therefore would also remain available for use during the construction period.
Under the proposals, access into the school site for pupils, staff and visitors would be unchanged, with vehicle and pedestrian access remaining from Greens Lane, as well as improved pedestrian access points from Broadway. The school’s pupil capacity will remain unchanged.
It is intended that a planning application for the redevelopment proposals will be submitted to Rossendale Borough Council following the consultation period. Subject to receiving planning permission, on-site work is likely to start in Summer 2027. The new school building is planned to be available for use by September 2029, with the project completing in Winter 2030, after the final phase of landscaping works.

Consultation Event
