Are you ready for Eurovision?

As we head towards the end of May half-term, we have had a great week at sports clubs and in lessons.

One week down

We have completed the first full week of exam season!

Our students have done us proud – exams are always a daunting experience, but perseverance and determination can go a long way.

This week has also been Mental Health Awareness Week. Here are some tips that may help with exam season:

  • Have something to look forward to once exams are over – whether that’s prom, a holiday, or simply just your last exam, having something fun to celebrate will keep you motivated.
  • Walk it off – if an exam hasn’t gone to plan or you’re feeling overwhelmed with revision, head out for a walk to clear the cobwebs and shake off the day.
  • Still do what you love – though you have less time to study during exam season, you should still factor in some time to do something you enjoy, whether that’s art, reading, exercise, etc.
  • Good mood = good food – having nutrient-dense foods and drinking plenty of water will boost your mood and help you feel on top form.
  • Speak up – if you’re struggling, talk to someone you trust in your inner circle, your family, your teachers or the school’s safeguarding team.

Heading for the hills

63 Year 10 students headed out on their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh qualifying expedition this week. The group, divided into teams, trekked across Burton in Lonsdale to Austwick, with an overnight camp on Thursday.

They got to see some cracking views along the way, and even made friends with some cows.

Good luck, everyone!

Counting daisies

Miss Dunkerley’s Year 11 Biology class have been using quadrants to estimate the number of flowers in the field.

It was a great opportunity for the group to learn about coordinates, and it was one of the many occasions where science meets maths!

Poppy has achieved Gold status!

Congratulations to Poppy, Year 8, who has achieved Gold in our ‘Go For Gold’ reading challenge! To achieve Gold, students must read 30 books

Want to take part? Speak to Ms Choudry or Mrs Khattak in the Library.

With Eurovision happening this weekend, our Languages classes have been rating the songs in French or German.

There were mixed reviews about France’s submission, while Norway was a crowd favourite. The UK, however, didn’t look promising…

Andy is our Year 9 Eurovision expert and has curated these lessons all by himself. He has done an amazing job and his teachers have really enjoyed delivering the presentations!

Great effort from the Year 8 Football Team

Well done to the Year 8 Boys’ Football Team, who made it all the way to the Cup Final this week.

The team drew 0-0 but unfortunately lost 5-4 on penalties.

Amazing effort for making it so far!

A round of rounders

Miss Berko and Mrs Davies have been pleased to see the number of attendees at Rounders Club growing! All year groups are welcome to join on Tuesdays afterschool.
