Ofsted Report

Dear parent / carer,

On Monday 9 May, I received notification from Ofsted that they were planning to visit our school on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 May under Section 8 of the Education Act 2005.  The Section 8 inspection is a short inspection of schools currently judged as ‘Good’ and determines whether the school continues to provide a good standard of education, and whether safeguarding is effective.

The report, which can be read from this link, confirms that Haslingden High School and Sixth Form remains a good school. However, my pride is not in an individual judgement, but in the overwhelmingly positive view that the inspection team formed of all aspects of school life. They saw a safe, inclusive and thriving school community, where dedicated staff work hard to support all students to achieve success in its widest sense. I hope that you find time to read the short report, however, I have included a few quotes below to give you a flavour of what it contains:

‘Pupils, and students in the sixth form, are proud to be part of Haslingden High School and Sixth Form.  Pupils told inspectors that this is because it is friendly and welcoming.  They enjoy coming to school.’

‘Leaders, governors and staff have high expectations of what pupils and students should achieve.’

‘Pupils told inspectors that they feel safe… Pupils enjoy strong relationships with one another and with staff.’

‘Pupils behave very well… They are keen to learn.’

‘Staff provide a wide range of enrichment activities.’

‘There is a strong safeguarding culture across the school.’

Behind each of the statements included in the report, there is an incredible amount of hard work from our students, staff, parents and governors. It is this partnership that collectively creates the positive culture that exists within our school and whilst the depth of detail is not included in the short report, the lead inspector spoke at length to highlight the many significant strengths that the team found during their intensive and thorough visit.

At Haslingden High School and Sixth Form it is a team effort and all members of our community play their part to make it a fantastic school environment. We are never complacent and continually strive to improve, making sure Achievement for All is a reality for all our students.

Please can I take this opportunity to offer my sincere appreciation for all your support throughout my time at Haslingden High School and Sixth Form. Over 300 parents responded to Ofsted’s ParentView questionnaire and the many positive views played a part in the inspectors shaping their view of our school.

I will be writing to you again before the end of the summer term to celebrate what has been a challenging yet undoubtedly positive and productive year in school. I will also be seeking your views on our ambitious school improvement plan, ensuring that we consider all stakeholders’ views and do all we can to continue to improve the opportunities and outcomes for your children.

Very best wishes

Russell Clarke, Headteacher
