Students in Years 7-10 were asked to complete a short survey during our exam week. We received 524 responses.
iPad Usage in Lessons
A significant portion of students are using their iPads frequently throughout the school day. Many report using them “in most lessons” or even “in all lessons”. Usage frequency is high across all year groups surveyed.
Subject-Specific iPad Use
The survey data indicates that iPads are most commonly used in the following subjects:
- Maths
- Science (including Biology, Chemistry & Physics)
- English
- French/German
- Humanities subjects such as Geography, History, and RS
How iPads are Used in the Classroom
The most common uses for iPads in lessons are:
- Completing and handing in assignments
- Revision
- Looking at work set on Showbie/Google Classroom
- Research
- Quizzes
- Doing work set on an app like Sparx Maths, Century Tech or Educake
A vast majority of students across all year groups agreed that having an iPad has made completing work in class easier.
iPad Use for Homework
The data shows a strong trend of using iPads for homework. Most students use their iPad for homework, with a large number using it “pretty much everyday” or “three or four times a week”. Similar to classroom use, the most frequent homework activities on the iPad include:
- Completing and handing in assignments
- Revision
- Looking at work set on Showbie/Google Classroom
- Doing work on educational apps
- Research
The overwhelming majority of students also feel that the iPad has made completing homework easier.
