Physical Education A Level

Brief details:

A-level PE is perfect for students who want to develop their own personal sport within a rigorous A-level course. The theoretical aspects of the course look at applied anatomy and exercise physiology, biomechanical movement,

skill acquisition, sport psychology, sport and society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport. A-level PE will also develop students’ knowledge and understanding of their own practical performance, ensuring effective and efficient performance. If you play sport to a high level and want to develop a greater understanding of your sport and how to improve your performance, then A-level PE is for you!

Preferred entry requirements:

Grade 4 at GCSE English and maths, grade 5 at GCSE science

Units studied:

Unit 1 – Exploring concepts in physical education

Unit 2 – Evaluation physical education and sport

Unit 3 – Improving personal performance in physical education

Exam Board: WJEC

Course assessment details:

This course is assessed through examinations (70%), practical sports performance (15%) and investigative research (15%).

Progression and career opportunities:

Combined with A-level subjects such as biology, sociology and psychology, you will be equipped to study sport science-related degrees such as sport management, sport therapy, teaching, sport coaching and physiotherapy. Careers exist in a range of sports industries, from sports development and coaching to sales, marketing and media.
