We’d like to share a special thank you to all of our staff – from teaching, to admin, to site, to catering, to support, and everything in between, for making this term such a success. To end the term, we have had plenty of celebrations and festivities for all to enjoy!
Sixth form fun!
The Sixth Form Leadership Team have taken the reins on festive activities this week, hosting a variety of special activities for everyone to take part in.
Monday started with Christmas pyjama day, while Tuesday saw everyone tucking into a free Christmas lunch and a whopping slice of cake. On Thursday, the team hosted a Christmas quiz while sporting festive jumpers. Some students even spend their frees doing karaoke and Just Dance!
To end the week, Mr Wood and Mrs Taylor also held the semi-finals and grand final of the Haslingden Sixth Form University Challenge. Law went head-to-head with Music, with Law coming out on top, winning the esteemed trophy. As an extra challenge, the grand final saw the leading team, Law, take on the staff team!

Haslingden’s Got Talent
It’s that time of year again! Students took to the big stage to perform for their peers, showing off the amazing talent we have in our student body.
From a The Greatest Showman duo, to our Nivarna band, to a dance megamix, to emotional solos and duos – the students put on a wonderful performance.
- Year 9 band ‘Nocturnal’ (Stanley, Ethan, Quinn) – Smells Like Teen Spirit
- Year 8 Lyla and Rubie – A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman
- Year 10 Elouise – Lost Without You
- Year 10 JJ – Snowman
- Year 10 Lily and Francesca – dance megamix
- Year 11 Chloe – Always Remember Us This Way
- Year 9 & 11 Sylvie and Imogen – For Good
- Year 10 & 11 band ‘The Hopes’ (Joey, Mylo, Gabriel, Lewis) – Supersonic
- Our hosts: Andy, Julianne, Selina, Lily
Well done to our performers, it takes a lot of courage to perform in front of a crowd – we’re proud of you!

Christmas Dinner Day
On Thursday, our students tucked into a delicious Christmas dinner with their form groups and form tutor.
The students lined up wonderfully and showed great manners throughout the day.
We’d like to share a huge thank you to our catering staff, who work incredibly hard to make this day, and every day, run smoothly.

Jumpers for a good cause
As part of Haslingden High School’s Youth Enterprise Group challenge to raise money for Rossendale Hospice, students were invited to take part in a festive jumper day, encouraging a £1 donation that will go towards the hospice.
The group have also hosted raffles at our school shows, and is working hard to raise as much money as possible for the hospice before their deadline.
They have raised over £300! Well done, keep up the good work!

Bringing some festive cheer to our local community
Every year, Miss Southee and Ms Edyvean lead a Christmas Hamper campaign, asking form groups to donate towards a hamper that is donated to someone in our local community.
From bottles of bubbly to basic household essentials, the hampers are sent as a ‘thank you’ from a nominee, or a pick-me-up for those who need a bit of support.
A group of students went out in the school van to hand deliver the hampers, sharing a bit of festive cheer along the way.
Thank you to everyone who donated towards the campaign!

GCSE Awards
On Wednesday, we welcomed our previous Year 11s back to accept their GCSE certificates in our GCSE Awards ceremony. Mr Lord handed out awards for Excellence and Endeavour for each subject, and also awarded Special Awards to:

Students help Mrs Choudry escape!
The Library Team run an Escape Room during the final week of term every year. It’s a treat for nominated Year 7 students whose English teachers feel have tried really hard in their first term at high school.
Several groups took part, following a series of clues and puzzles to help Mrs Choudry find the key to escape the Library before the end of term!
The students really enjoyed the challenge, and it was great to see so many smiles as they cracked each puzzle!

Indoor Athletics success
Several students took part in an Indoor Athletics competition on Tuesday. Students participated in track and field events against other schools in Rossendale.
Well done to our girls who came third, receiving bronze medals and our boys who were victorious, receiving the gold medals!
The boys’ team will progress to the Lancashire finals in the new year. Well done, all!

We’d like to share a thank you to all of our families, staff, and students who have made this term a great success. Wishing you a peaceful break, and we are excited to welcome you back in the new year for another fantastic year at Haslingden High School and Sixth Form.
