Two Haslingden High School students are delighted to have landed roles in the next Burnley Youth Theatre performance of Oliver Twist.
13-year-olds Amelia and Abigail joined 150 18 to 11-year-old hopefuls auditioning for parts in the play.
“After some improvisation, they put us into groups and we had to act out little parts of the story.” – Abigail
The students were delighted to find out they were among the successful 45 to be picked for parts and now will have weeks of intense rehearsal before the show on December 12 and 13 at the theatre off Queens Park Road in Burnley.
Abigail has been cast as Sally, who steals the locket from Oliver’s mother, while Amelia is taking on the role of Mr Grimsby.
Amelia has been a dancer at Rossendale Dance and Drama Centre in Waterfoot since she was nine and has previously performed as the Artful Dodger, as well as being in a production of Swan Lake in Halifax. In the future, she hopes to become a choreographer.

Abigail has been learning drama since she was four with Just Imagine UK in Haslingden, where she has achieved a LAMDA Grade 2 in Musical Theatre and Grade 1 in acting and her dream is to be a TV actor. She has performed in several musicals and shows, including Peter Pan and Matilda and is also auditioning for the part of Fiona in a production of Shrek.
