Students brought the pages to life in Haworth
A group of Year 12 English Literature students stepped back in time during a visit to the picturesque village of Haworth in Yorkshire.
Once home to one of literature’s most iconic families, the students immersed themselves in the atmospheric history of the village and explored some iconic Brontë landmarks.
They took part in a Gothic workshop, went on a historical tour of the village, and had a look around the Brontë Parsonage Museum.
We’re lucky to have such amazing locations to explore within a short distance of the sixth form!
Year 10s become career-ready
As part of our commitment to ensuring students are prepared for life after education, we have held a series of mock interviews for our Year 10s.
External volunteers from a variety of professional backgrounds have kindly offered their time to deliver one-to-one interviews with our students.
One of our guest interviewers said: “The interviews have been going really well – you can tell a few are a little bit nervous, but it is a great experience for them.”
We hope this experience not only helped the students polish their communication skills, but also encouraged them to reflect on their strengths, goals, and potential career paths.
Animal Club mentor celebration
Every week, the Science Faculty hosts ‘Animal Club’ for all students interested in wildlife and biology. The club is supported by a group of Year 10 mentors, who help lead the sessions and share knowledge with younger students.
This week, our Science Technicians held a ‘thank you’ garden party to reward the Year 10s for all of their hard work over the past year.
The group enjoyed some squash and sweet treats as well as being awarded their mentoring badges.
Going for Gold
Eight Year 12 students spent four days and three nights in the Lake District as part of a practice run of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition.
The students were supported by Mr Ikin and Mr Collis who said the group were “great fun to spend 4 days in the hills with!”
Despite the hot weather, the group did amazingly well and enjoyed some well-deserved tea and cake at the final stop.
Rounders Team had a ball
It was a busy week for the Year 9 girls rounders team, as they had a regional competition and a student vs. staff match to contend with.
The girls did an amazing job competing on behalf of Rossendale – finishing 6th place out of the whole of Lancashire.
We also held a friendly staff vs. students match while the weather is nice in which the staff team won by a narrow margin.
New Management Team appointed
Nine Year 12 students have been appointed as the new Sixth Form Management Team along with two head pupils and one deputy head pupil.
The appointment comes after an application process where we carefully selected the next generation of sixth form leaders.
The Sixth Form Management Team are responsible for organising events, assisting with the high school council, and helping to improve student life at the sixth form.
