Friday 23 May
An award-winning final week of term
It has been an extra special week as we bid farewell to our Year 11 and Year 13 students.
As for the rest of school, here is what has been happening…
And the Oscar goes to…
Year 12 and 13 Film Studies celebrated in style this week, as Ms Smithson hosted an Academy Awards-style award ceremony for the Year 13’s film projects.
All the students were invited to dress in their finest red carpet looks as each film was awarded an Oscar.
Well done to the students for their hard work. We look forward to seeing you on the big screens in the future!

This Girl Can
Several sports students took part in a ‘This Girl Can’ sports event in Clitheroe on Thursday. The campaign by Sport England, funded by the National Lottery, encourages women and girls to get active in whatever way works best for them.
Singing from the rooftops
This week in choir practice, the students warmed up with a beautiful rendition of Ecce Homo (aka the theme from Mr Bean!).
The sopranos, mezzos, and baritones worked in harmony to perfect this tricky piece of music.
Keep up the good work.

They found themselves in First Place!
Our Year 7 Orienteering team came first in the Rossendale School Orienteering Competition recently. The pairs navigates their way around the hilly Marl Pits area, quickly finding their way around the course despite the hot weather conditions.
Well done to Maia, Elsie, Kate, Ivy, Teddy, Huey, George, and Finley.

Next Steps for Year 12s
Haslingden Sixth Form welcomed top education providers to discuss options with Year 12 students.
There are plenty of pathways for students to choose from – including degrees, degree apprenticeships, and traditional apprenticeships. There has never been more choice!
Thank you to Lancaster University, Manchester Met, Edge Hill, UCLan, University of Sheffield, Liverpool John Moores and Amazing Apprenticeships for taking the time to attend.

Farewell for now
This week is the official last day for Year 11s and Year 12s and it was packed full of fun and unforgettable memories.
Year 11s signed shirts while enjoying delicious pizza pockets, followed by a good-bye assembly, while Year 13s battled an inflatable assault course (organised by the Future Leaders team) and had a visit from an ice cream van before their final assembly with us at Haslingden.
We wish every single student leaving us the very best of luck for the future. Be brave and reach for the stars!
