FOOTBALLER Ella Collinson was on standby for a week hoping for a call up to attend an England training camp in Staffordshire.
Ella, 14, from Rising Bridge, has been playing football since she was four and, after a spell at Blackburn Rovers Academy, she has been playing for Manchester City for a year.
She said: “I train with the England U14s team and was offered the standby place to fill in at the Under 15s camp at St George’s Park should anyone become ill. I play left wing or centre midfielder and started at Rossendale Valley.
“I liked the sport right from the start because it was fun and I was on the same team with some of my mates.
“I am a goal scorer and my best goal was when I was playing with Blackburn against Wigan and I kicked the ball from just outside the box and it landed in the top bins [the top corner of the net].”
Ella trains three days a week with Manchester City and also with the Lancashire U15s team and the England U14s team.
She said: “My hero is Lionel Messi because he is the best player ever and Lioness Georgia Stanway, who plays for Blackburn Rovers.”
