CRICKETERS from Haslingden High School won a place in the County final after beating Unity High School in Burnley.
Eight teams qualified for the final, which was held at Lancaster, and the Haslingden U15s girls’ cricketers played three matches. They won one and the other two were very close results.
On the 11-a-side team were 15-year-olds Lola Marcroft and Sadia Ali who both play for Brooksbottom Cricket Club in Summerseat.
Sadia said: “It was a tough competition and we didn’t lose by much. Cricket is something that I enjoy and I started playing when I was in primary school and then started playing more seriously in high school.”
Both Sadia and Lola said they prefer to bowl rather than bat.
Lola added: “I started playing cricket because my dad wanted me to and I have been playing since I was nine.”
PE teacher Nikki Berko said: “The cricketers did great to get to the Lancashire finals where they played Stonyhurst College, Bishop Rawsthorn and Blue Coats. We beat Blue Coats comfortably and lost narrowly to the other two.”
