Pride preparations 🏳️‍🌈

Reading superstars

It has been a super week for our Go For Gold reading challenge, with six students achieving milestones.

Well done to Elsie, Archie, Oliver, and Connie (Bronze) and Erin and Reece (Silver).

If your child would like to participate in the challenge (and potentially win special prizes!), they can speak to Ms Choudry or Mrs Zhattak in the Library.

Sharing messages of acceptance

Our annual Pride celebrations will be taking place next week. In preparation, several students have been helping Ms Southee decorate the school halls with symbols of peace, acceptance, and respect.

At Haslingden High School and Sixth Form, we strive to encourage students to embrace who they are, and to respect and be kind to those around them. Love is love, and we support that.

Stars of the Week

We had a wonderful collection of Star of the Week winners this week. One student, who was nominated by a peer, was rewarded for being kind and supportive in a music lesson, another did a fantastic job of creating teaching resources for Language classes during Eurovision, and another was rewarded for exceptional effort and hard work in class.

Our Stars shared their breaktime with Mr Clarke, and enjoyed some sausage rolls and juice as a treat.

Keep up the great work!

A phenomenal week for girls’ sport

Our Year 10 rounders team became Rossendale winners at their final rounders tournament at Haslingden High School!

We also entered two Year 8 teams in the Rossendale schools rounders competition this year, and it was great to see so many students having fun and representing our school brilliantly.

And finally, a huge congratulations to our cricketers who won the regional competition yesterday and have now reached the Lancashire final taking place at Westhoughton CC next week.

Amazing effort!

We are #DementiaFriends

Year 12 CTEC Health and Social had a special guest visit their lesson this week.

Nazia, a volunteer at Dementia Friends and Alzheimer’s Society, led an important presentation on how dementia typically affects a person’s independence and confidence.

The group discussed the signs and symptoms, common myths, and the journey to diagnosis.

The session aimed to help students identify the best care methods to support someone living with dementia.

Thank you, Nazia, for sharing your time and expertise with us!

Future music producers?

We launched a competition at the start of the term for our students to make a jingle for a special project the Library and Literacy Team have been working on.

It was definitely a tough decision to pick a winner, but after some lengthy consideration and deliberation, we picked a winner!

Well done to Buddy, Y12, who won first place and to Andy, Y9, and Hayden, Y10, who came joint second.

Keep your eyes (or ears!) peeled for our special project announcement!
