From inspirational songs to staying informed on real issues, our students have had a great week of learning.
Don’t stop, never give up!
Miss Carver led an inspirational assembly this week, encouraging students to be themselves.
She led with the S Club 7 song, Bring It All Back. Though our students were not even born when this song came out(!), the lyrics still share an important message:
Don’t stop, never give up
Hold your head high and reach the top
Let the world see what you have got
Bring it all back to you (bring it all back now)
Hold on to what you try to be
Your individuality
When the world is on your shoulders
Just smile and let it go
If people try to put you down
Just walk on by, don’t turn around
You only have to answer to yourself

Visit from Mr T
We welcomed two external visitors for this week’s Year 12 PSHE.
Mr T from With You Lancashire led a presentation on drug and alcohol awareness. He led an insightful conversation about the dangers of substances, giving our students the information they need to make healthy and informed choices.
Jodie from PAC also led a presentation. She talked to the students about domestic violence and abuse – the signs of abuse and how to get help.
We cover a number of important topics in PSHE to ensure our students are prepared for life beyond Haslingden High School and Sixth Form.

Understanding important characters
Miss Hopwood’s Year 7 English class have been studying The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne over the past few weeks.
To help develop their understanding of the characters, the class took part in group debates on each character’s roles and responsibilities.
It was great to see the students listen to each other’s work and support their understanding.

Going all in
As part of Ms Choudry’s Reading for Pleasure lessons, Year 8 learnt about The National Literacy Trust’s Go All In campaign.
The campaign encourages taking up reading in any capacity – whether that is instructions, a recipe, a comic book, or music lyrics – it’s all about understanding words and ‘going all in’ to whatever takes your interest.

Dodgeball in the dark
On Tuesday, the Rossendale School Sports Partnership organised a UV dodgeball event at our school for Year 6 and Year 7 students in the area.
It was a great bonding experience for the year groups, and it was fantastic to see so many children being active and having fun.
Thank you to our sports leaders who gave up their time to support the event by setting up equipment, officiating, and getting involved in the fun, as well!
