Mathematics

Welcome to the Mathematics Faculty pages. The faculty has embraced the school led initiative of co-operative learning and one to one iPad scheme, and shared resources has helped ensure all students are actively engaged in lessons and developed as independent learners. The students follow the Edexcel Linear course at GCSE, and so a range of resources and teaching styles is used to meet the learning needs of students, in addition to the use of the Active Teach and Active Learn schemes of work and linked resources for Key Stages 3 and 4.

Students are set in 3 bands in Years 7 and 8, and in 2 parallel bands in Years 9, 10 and 11. At A-level there are currently 2 AS Mathematics classes each in Y12 & Y13, and a Further Mathematics class in both Y12 and Y13, all of which are taught by pairs of teachers. Year 13 A-Level results last year achieved ALPs 5. Further Mathematics is becoming an increasingly popular choice and several of our students are choosing to study  Mathematics to degree level.

Homework is an important means by which students can deepen their learning and improve their understanding of topics studied.  More information can be found here.
