We have been celebrating languages, taking part in science practicals, and trying out new sports this week!
Shout Out For German
This week, the Modern Foreign Languages Faculty put a spotlight on German for ‘Shout Out For German’ week.
The German Embassy are celebrating German as a language with a week-long social media campaign, encouraging people to learn the language.
In 7O 3’s lesson this week, while learning how to say what sports they play, pupils learnt about the popular German sport of handball.
They watched highlight clips of a recent game between Germany and Austria, and pupils shared their opinions on the sport with the class.
In 9P 2, pupils played a radio show game ‘I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue’. Pupils listened to a text in German and followed along. The volume goes down, and pupils continue to follow along. Then the audio is paused, and pupils predict what the next word will be! Our top scorer was Anakin C with two correct predictions and Abubakr K with one point.

Duolingo Club also took part in German activities as well. The club aimed to get as many XP (points) as possible on their virtual German lessons, and also did some colouring-in of the German flag.

At breaktime, Mrs Nixon and Mrs Taylor held a German breakfast for our top achievers in the subject. Were lucky to be one of the few schools still offering German as a language choice, and we are proud to be supporting the Shout Out For German campaign.

Whatever floats your boat
Last week in Science Club, students designed and built a boat; the aim was to make a vessel capable of carrying a load without sinking, with the limited materials provided.
Everyone took this VERY seriously, and some amazing designs were put forward.
All passed the first two test stages well, but when the big loads were brought out, there was one clear winner!
Robin’s Party Boat carried an impressive 1200 gms of cargo without sinking.
Great work!
Thank you to our wonderful Science Technicians for delivering such a fantastic club.

Speedy start to the lesson
Mr Bainbridge’s Physics classes have been investigating acceleration in a hands-on practical this week.
Students were observing the effect of force on acceleration, calculating the mean of their results.

Trying out Pickleball
Last year, we raised funds for new sports equipment, with donations generously matched by Cash for Kids. We’re happy to share that the first delivery has arrived, and our Year 7 students have already been putting it to good use by trying pickleball for the very first time!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the campaign. Your generosity is helping us introduce exciting new activities and inspire a greater appreciation of sport among our students.

Where are they now?
We are currently building a display of old photos as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. So, we would like to invite you to take a trip down memory lane and have a look through your old school photos!
Any photos you would like to contribute to the display can be emailed to:
You will receive an automated response asking you for some more information.
