It’s the second week of the new term, and we have been covering some important topics across the board.
It’s never too early for road safety awareness
On Friday, as part of our extensive PSHE offer, students in Year 10 were joined by Clare from Lancashire Fire and Rescue. Clare delivered a presentation on the importance of road safety – whether that’sdangerous driving, drink driving, or being a responsible passenger.
We cover a host of different life topics in PSHE to help our students feel prepared for life after school.

Year 11 Parents Evening
We welcomed Y11 parents and carers in for the first face-to-face parents’ evening since Covid.
With Year 11 being the most important year for our students, we wanted to test whether face-to-face was the best option for our school community.
Thank you to everyone who made the effort to attend. We hope you took a lot out of the evening.

Year of Reading
We are supporting the National Literacy Trust’s Year of Reading campaign, which invites people of all ages to ‘go all in’ with reading.
Everyone has a passion, so why not deepen your knowledge and sharpen your mind by reading all about what you love.
“If you’re into it, read into it”

Special visit from an author
Further to the above, we also welcomed author and poet, Nathan Parker inspire Year 10 and 11 students on Monday.
He spent the whole day delivering a top-notch workshop to students, giving them ideas on how to tackle the ‘narrative writing’ question in their GCSE English Language paper.
He also shared his own journey into writing with the students, to inspire them to pick up a pen and get creative.
Nathan said that he really enjoyed delivering the workshop and that our students interacted very well with his material.
Thank you for stopping by, Nathan!

Healthy living
In assembly this week, Mr King, Head of Biology, led a presentation on the importance of choosing foods that fuel us.
“The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.”
He discussed how sugar can be hidden in foods such as sauces, and that having a go at making your own can often taste better and make you feel better in the long run.

Future Leaders – future teachers?
Year 12 sixth form students, Lily and Lois, are currently completing Phase 2 of their Future Leaders qualification, which involves working with Ms Tilley in Psychology.
For the qualification, students have to go into the school or local community and lead a project. The pair have chosen to run a Psychology A Level taster course for Year 11 students.
They have organised, planned and are delivering the whole programme independently, under Ms Tilley’s supervision. They invited students in Year 11 who have expressed interest in studying Psychology at A Level.
They are delivering sessions afterschool on the following:
- Wednesday 14th January – Biopsychology
- Wednesday 21st January – Social Influence
- Wednesday 28th January – Forensic Psychology
- Wednesday 4th February – Careers in Psychology
Anyone else who would like to attend these sessions, please contact sixthform@haslingdenhigh.com

MEGA Hubs
Year 9 have took part in a MEGA Hub at ACROSS College this afternoon.
This project aims to provide cutting-edge digital skills (AI, VR, cyber, coding, machine learning) to secondary school students through a “super curriculum”.
The goal is to bridge the digital skills gap, boost local economies, and create diverse tech careers.
Our girls came second with their R-Fish Marine app idea!
