Jobs, training and study on offer at Careers’ Fair

HUNDREDS of students got the chance to plan for their futures at a Careers’ Fair which attracted 24 businesses, training providers and universities.

Haslingden High School and Sixth Form hosted the Careers’ Fair and throughout the day students from Years 9, 11 and the Sixth Form talked to the delegates to learn more about future careers.

It was organised by Assistant Headteacher Sally Finney, who is also the careers’ lead.

She said: “About 800 students got the chance to meet with the different businesses, which included Boys Construction, Orbital Print, all the Armed Services, PNS Landscapes, BAE Systems, Grow Traffic, the Horse and Bamboo Theatre and Interfloor.

“We also had Higher Education providers to support students as they make decisions about the next steps in their future.

“We invited Year 9 to attend as they are just about to be choosing their GCSE options so this gives them the chance to select the right subjects for the career they want to pursue.”

The feedback from businesses was very positive with many commenting on how polite and engaged the students were and praising them for their well-thought out and relevant questions.

It also gave businesses a chance to showcase what they had to offer to the workforce of the future.

Miss Finney added: “It is about supporting students at the key transitional times in their school life. They learnt about further study and also about what future careers are out there to inspire them to raise their aspirations.”

After Easter, Year 10 students will be embarking on work experience placements.
