FOOTBALLERS from Haslingden High School represented Blackburn Rovers in the Utilita Girls Cup Final at Accrington Sports Hub.
The team won a previous heat to secure the place in the final and then played seven other school teams from all over the area who had won their local finals.
Eva Bennett, 13, who also plays for Bamford Pumas said: “We played well but there were better teams against us. Each club was representing a different club and the eventual winners were Blackpool.
“It was quite difficult as the first two teams we were up against were the best which knocked our confidence, but by the third game we started to get goals in.”
Alice, 12, said: “It was a really good experience and we were pleased to get through to the second round.”
They finished in fifth place, one off the four teams that went through to the semi-final and final.
One of the youngest players on the team was 11-year-old Olivia Newbitt who used to be a dancer until her dad introduced her to football during lockdown.
She started playing with Haslingden Girls and Ladies Football Club, then trained at Blackburn, joined Burnley and is now in her third year with Manchester United.
She said: “I thought it was good because they were quick games, only six minutes each side. We were playing outside in the rain.”
