Hampers of cheer handed out by Haslingden High students

HIGH school students donated items and delivered around 30 hampers of Christmas cheer to residents and families in their local community.

Assistant Headteacher at Haslingden High School and Sixth Form Elaine Edyvean said: “Lots of the hampers went to elderly residents in the area, all were nominated by students and parents. They were handed out to some really lovely people who were very grateful.

“It was an absolutely fabulous effort, as always, from our students and families, especially in these difficult times when so many people are struggling to make ends meet.

“We took 12 students out with us, who had been nominated by form tutors as those who had gone above and beyond, some of them brought in their own individual hampers. It was really lovely that some students were able to hand over their hampers to the people they had nominated themselves.”

One grateful resident Colin Duckworth commented on Facebook: “I would like to thank everyone for the hamper l received this morning, such a wonderful surprise. Deeply grateful.”

A visit was also made to Haslingden Hall Care Home when students handed out individual boxes of chocolates to residents and chatted to them.

In the New Year, Haslingden High School and Sixth Form is setting up a regular weekly meet up with the care home where students will visit after school to chat and play board games with residents.

The Raft Foundation also collected lots of bags and boxes that were left over.
