STAFF and students of Haslingden High School and Sixth Form attended school wearing odd socks to mark Anti Bullying Week.
Nathan Williams, 15, said: “We had an assembly about anti-bullying week and then we had the odd socks day which we did as a whole school.
“It was all about celebrating everybody’s differences; I wore a smiley face sock and my other sock was rainbow colours.
“I think it is important that people understand that not everyone is the same; we all like different things and it is important that we all respect each other.”
Joshua Carter, 14, knows from past experience what it is like to be bullied.
He said: “I am fully autistic; it is good to know that people are looking out for you at Haslingden High.”
The school recently was awarded the Lancashire Equality Mark, has a Pride and Allies Group, runs a Dyslexia Club every day during form time and has a Mindfulness Club that meets every couple of weeks.
Joshua said: “I go to the Mindfulness Club and it helps to calm me down and work on my mental health.”
On odd socks day he wore Morecambe Football Club socks as he is a fan, one was red – the home kit – and one was blue – the goalkeeper’s sock.
Nathan added: “Haslingden High School has done lots of things to help students to celebrate their differences and we have a bunch of teachers who are there for us to help us if ever we need them. There is always someone you can turn to.”
