Friendships formed as students enjoy weekend in Edinburgh

NEW Sixth Form students got to know each other better and forged new friendships on a weekend trip to Edinburgh.

Forty-five Year 12 students from Haslingden High School and Sixth Form along with four staff members left at 7.30am on Friday stopping off at Gretna shopping outlet before arriving in the Scottish capital.

Georgia Holt, 16, said: “We went to the National Museum of Scotland and stayed in dormitories at Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel. Later we got to go round the Christmas Markets and I bought some owl ornaments and went on one of the rides.”

They also got to see the statue of Greyfriar’s Bobby, the dog that guarded his master’s grave for 14 years in Kirkyard Cemetery.

Gabby Rosthorn, 16, said: “On the Saturday we went to see The Kelpies sculptures and they are huge, we went on the Royal Mile and also on an underground tour of Edinburgh. I was terrified; I never believed in ghosts until I went in there. We also went on a spooky ghost bus tour.”

Sunday was spent in Camera Obscura World of Illusions and a tour of historic Edinburgh Castle before getting the coach back home.

Gabby said: “I had never spoken to some of the students on the trip before; the only person I really knew was Georgia.

“We made new friends and got to know people in Sixth Form a lot better.”

Georgia added: “I have never really been to a city before, but I found Edinburgh really clean and tidy and the buildings were well maintained.”

Both said they would love to go back and explore Edinburgh more in the future.
