Beyond the taught curriculum
We believe that learning should not stop at the end of the school day. We are passionate about offering a diverse range of extra-curricular and leadership opportunities and want students to leave with a whole host of wonderful memories of their time spent with us.
Sport and physical activity are an important part of life at our school and our dedicated team offers a wide range of activities. Being active encourages a healthy lifestyle and helps to develop essential life skills such as teamwork and resilience. The variety of opportunities available reflects the breadth of interests and talents of our students. Popular sporting activities include football, rugby, netball, cricket, rounders, basketball and trampolining. Our teams compete successfully in major competitions at all levels and a number of our young people have represented Lancashire and even England in sports as diverse as golf, swimming, trampolining, BMX riding and handball.
Each year, students participate in numerous visits and excursions, which include visits to galleries, museums and theatres, geography and biology field trips and holidays abroad. We also offer students the opportunity to become involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and have large numbers of students successfully completing their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards alongside their studies.
We have a strong tradition in the performing arts and our curriculum helps students to develop creativity, confidence and high self-esteem. Our music department is exceptional and our various bands and ensembles have won a number of accolades, both locally and nationally. Dance clubs, art clubs, drama workshops, peripatetic music lessons, full-scale annual productions and a range of shows and performances collectively ensure that all students are given the opportunity to pursue their artistic interests – or just have some fun!
