Title: Football champions, a race across the world, and a detective on site!
It’s been a jam-packed week at Haslingden High School and Sixth Form.
Read on to find out what’s been happening…
Race Around the World
Year 9 Geography students are participating in a ‘Race Across the World’ project in class.
They need to find a way to travel from China to China Town in Manchester using local currency and public transport (no planes allowed!).
Mrs Green presented each destination on the route along with different accommodation and transport options, and the students needed to convert the cost while sticking to a budget. Good luck!

A Detective Chief Inspector calls
DCI Bryant, who works with Greater Manchester Police’s serious crime squad, visited Year 12 Law students to give an insight into his career.
He spoke about how to interview suspects and recounted some of his experiences dealing with violent and organised crime.
The presentation follows a visit from Senior Lecturer at Salford University, Louise Hall, who shared her experience as a practicing solicitor with the students. Food for thought for budding lawyers!

Water Safety
Michelle from the Lancashire Fire & Rescue service delivered an educational assembly on the dangers and consequences of entering open water, even if you are a strong swimmer.
Michelle shared that drowning is one of the UK’s leading causes of accidental death, as open water tends to be in isolated areas, is very cold, and of unknown depth.
As we approach warmer weather, the school would like to thank LF&RS for presenting on such an important topic.

Football Champions
Our Year 7 boys football team won 2-1 against Alder Grange, competing in the final of the Rossendale Schools Champions Cup.
The students represented the school excellently in a close game with another excellent team. Enjoy the glory, boys!

Hooting Success!
Year 7 & 8 Duolingo Club, which takes place every Thursday, were grateful to receive some goodies from the HHS PTFA to motivate students to keep up their streaks on the Duolingo languages app.
The app is used for short language classes for students to complete in their own time. Each day they complete a lesson, their streak increases.
The goodies include reward stickers, which the students like to stick to their exercise books and iPads, and the most improved will get to wear a Duo badge. This week’s winner was Safiya. Well done!
