UCAS visit helps students weigh up university choices

MORE than 90 Sixth Form students from Haslingden High School got the chance to find out more about university life on a UCAS Discovery Day.

They attended Manchester Central where more than 50 different universities were represented.

Lucie Waters, 17, said: “There were so many universities there, they asked us what subject we wanted to do and told us about university life and when their open days were.

“I was thinking about doing physiotherapy and looking at Liverpool University. Originally, I wanted to do a degree apprenticeship, but that is not an option for my chosen course it is just a degree. I and still interested in going to university and will be going to the open day at Liverpool.”

Evie Hargreaves, 16, is interested in policing and will be applying for a degree apprenticeship place, with Leeds Trinity her most likely preferred choice.

She said: “I was after gathering information and it was good to have all the universities in one place.

“It was a lot better to be able to talk to people from the universities and not just look places up online.”

They both said they thought going to the UCAS Discovery Day was a good idea and they now understood more what it was going to be like on campus when they make the move to university life.

Evie added: “I am now starting to feel a bit like I am going to be leaving home; there is such a big gap between school and university.”
