December 2012: High School students aid pupils learn to love music

PRIMARY pupils had the chance to develop a love for music in a special workshop held in their school organised by Haslingden High School.

Head of Music at Haslingden High, Jonathan Gleeson, took the music students to neighbouring Broadway Primary School where they hosted a morning of musical fun with 25 Year 1s.

He said: “This follows a successful pilot we held last year. The Year 1s have been doing a topic on musical instruments and we brought along the school’s Wind Band and they were able to listen to the students play.

“When we take our students to the BBC Philharmonic they are able to sit next to the musicians and so we allowed the primary pupils to do the same thing.

“We ran a series of workshops where they could try a saxophone, flute, clarinet, tuba or guitar and we even took along a ukelele and some percussion.”
