The Design & Technology Faculty consists of a dedicated team of teachers; a strong and supportive team. The faculty has very good specialist rooms, which consists of two workshops, one food technology room, one graphics/CAD/CAM room and two dedicated computer rooms.
In KS3 the students are taught in a carousel system of approximately nine or ten week rotations covering the disciplines of systems, sustainability, food preparation and nutrition, designing and materials. All students are assessed in each rotation and given feedback on their academic progress.
The faculty offers a diverse array of examination subjects in both KS4 and KS5. In the current Year 11 GCSEs are offered in Design Technology, 3D design, food preparation and nutrition, and health & social care. At post 16 the faculty has had a strong tradition in AS/A2 product design and health & social care.
All students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities including extensive after-school clubs and holiday sessions to support examination success. Students from Haslingden High School regularly take part in in the prestigious Rotary Club Technology Tournament, competing against a large number of other schools and colleges. We have had considerable success in these events at all key stages, winning ten awards over recent years.
Homework is an important means by which students can deepen their learning and improve their understanding of topics studied. More information can be found here.
