It’s coming home!

The weather is getting hotter! Here’s what has been happening during a week that started and ended with two big football games…

It’s coming home!

As England played a very, very late World Cup match last weekend, the school decided to allow the students a slightly later start so they could get enough sleep for the rest of the day. For those who needed to be in at the normal time, we played a recording of the match so everyone could enjoy the game. Those who didn’t want to watch also had the choice to go to lesson as normal. It was wonderful to hear the cheers of those watching the game in the Theatre!

We hope everyone enjoys the match this weekend.

Double victory for our Year 7 rounders teams!

Both teams won their first competitive game this week.

We are incredibly proud of their dedication to practice – hard work pays off! Well done, teams!

German Day in Lytham

12 of our keen Year 9 and 10 German students attended a Careers Day at Lytham St Anne’s High School on Wednesday to learn more about future study options and opportunities to work abroad.

They took part in a range of engaging sessions on topics such as internships in Germany, and learnt how languages can help in careers such as architecture and sustainability projects.

Thanks to Lancaster University, the University of Leeds, the German Embassy and, of course, the Goethe Institut for all their work encouraging our students to aim high.

Summer Concert

The Music Department held its annual Summer Concert on Thursday.

We had performances from our Brass Band, orchestra, choir, and rock band The Hopes.

Our students treated us to some wonderful performances from films and productions such as James Bond, Indiana Jones, Mamma Mia, and Hamilton.

Well done to everyone who participated and a special thanks to the Music Department for putting together the show.

Is everybody sitting comfortably?

Today, a group of dedicated students and keen readers joined Ms Choudry and Mrs Khattak for an exclusive viewing of the Carnegie Medal awards.

The ceremony was a celebration of 125 nominated books, and the host encouraged students to “keep reading, keep questioning, and keep imagining”.

The group were treated to a selection of snacks provided by HHS PTFA and enjoyed looking around the museum afterwards.

Pre-loved Uniform Sale

This week, we held our annual Pre-loved Uniform Sale.

We ask for donations of uniform items that are no longer needed / don’t fit anymore. Donations mean parents can save a lot of money and give extra life to the item!

Thank you to Ms Southee, Ms Edyvean, and Mrs Isherwood for organising the sale.

Socks in class

After the success of Miss Holian’s textile class last year, she encouraged her class to make sock teddies again!

She was particularly impressed by Rosie’s DT creation!

Readathon winners

Last week, we held LitFest – a celebration of books and writing.

A part of the festivities included a readathon for the charity Read Good. Well done to our Readathoners who were sponsored to read as much as they possibly could!

Media focus

Year 10s took part in a media-specific careers talk for Year 10 GCSE Media Studies students. James Edney from Sportsfive spoke to the students about the wide range of exciting careers in media within the sports industry.
James asked the class to explore advertising campaigns by Nike and Adidas for this year’s World Cup, identifying their target audience and impact.
Students much preferred Nike’s episodic offering of lots of 30-second clips put together (appealing to the fast pace of the TikTok generation), while the nostalgic look at the Adidas campaign going way back to the 1994 World Cup appealed to slightly older Ms Smithson!
The talk was definitely inspirational – with a couple of our students going on to complete their mock interviews with James later in the day.
A big thank you to James for taking the time to talk about media in the real world – the appeal of working somewhere with a magically refilled snack wall piqued our attention!
