Haslingden High School and Sixth Form's weekly round-up

Weekly round-up: Friday 13th June, 2025

We’re almost halfway through June, and our students have been exploring new opportunities this week!

Trampolining

As part of their Sport CTEC, Year 12 students have been leading lower school classes to implement their theory. Halle, Year 12, led a trampolining class alongside Mrs Mongan, teaching the students how to do sit-drops and front-drops.

This type of learning provides the Year 12s with a host of new skills, including confidence, leadership, resilience, and patience.

Dishing up dinner

In Food Tech this week, Year 7, 8 and 9s made a delicious Chickpea Curry. The smell of spices wafted through the corridors as the student learnt how to safely chop vegetables and follow a recipe.

They did an excellent job and we hope families got to try some of the end result!

Year 5 Taster Week

This week, we welcomed Year 5 students from local primary schools to our Taster Week. The week aims to give the students a glimpse into high school life, letting them experience the classes, the routine, and also meet the teachers so that when the time comes, the transition feels a little less daunting to them.

Over the week, the students got involved in a wide range of activities and assemblies. We hope they enjoyed their time with us, and we hope to see them again in a few years!

Rounders champions

The Haslingden High School Year 9 rounders team have been crowned champions in the Rossendale Schools’ Rounders competition this week.

The team will go on to represent Rossendale in the Lancashire finals in July.

Good luck, team!

A heart break in Science

Year 9 had the opportunity to partake in a hands-on practical this week, as Miss Dunkerley led a heart dissection lesson.

The students who chose to participate demonstrated exceptional independence and stellar behaviour as they explored the internal workings of a heart.

A magic carpet ride… On ice!

Ruby, Year 9, has been selected to feature in an on-ice rendition of Aladdin this December. The show will be part of Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s Christmas celebrations and promises a performance not to be missed..

Ruby has been skating since she was 5 years. Her auditions were successful and she will be taking part in auditions for a leading role later in the year.

You’ll do great , Ruby!

What a fun week! Let’s see what next week has to offer. Have a great weekend, everyone.
