March 2020: Cricketers score hard earned third place in county

CONGRATULATIONS to the U13s girls cricket team who were third in the Lancashire finals.

The team, who are all but one from Year 7, took on the county’s best teams at Bolton Arena and fought hard.

Lola Whittles, 11, said: “There was a catch which although our teacher and the other side’s captain saw, the umpire missed.”

There were eight teams in the final and Haslingden lost the first match against Alder Grange, the eventual winners.  Their second match was a close result,  where they were narrowly beaten and they won third place.

Lola Marcroft, 12, also plays for Ramsbottom Cricket Club where her dad is the U13s trainer.

She said: “We have been improving and next year, if we are still playing together as a team, the Year 7s will have had this experience; the winning team were all from Year 8 and so will have to go into a different competition next year.”
