AN INCREDIBLE final score line of 14-0 saw our U16s girls football team soar straight through to the Lancashire Cup semi-final.
The team hope to emulate their success from 2017 when they won the cup, although they have been in the semi-final and final almost every year since starting at Haslingden.
In the latest match, against Bishop Rawstorne from Croston, Beth Macdonald scored five goals; Abby Clarke scored four, two for Lucy Spence and one apiece for Lucy Valentine, Niamh Downey and Charlotte Whalley.
Abby Clarke, 15, has just started her seventh season playing for Everton as well as representing her school.
She said although the match was a home game, it was played at Accrington Academy because of the weather conditions.
Captain Lucy Valentine, 15, who also plays for Chorley U18s, said: “We did not expect to get so many goals as it was a quarter final.”
Beth Macdonald, 15, a Blackburn Rovers player, added: “The team had a couple of decent players but they had some weaknesses in defence and that let us through.”
They are still waiting to find out who they will face in the semi-final.
Both Lucy and Beth are hoping to secure a scholarship to study and play football in America as the women’s game there is even more popular than the men’s.
