Two of our footballing students have secured places in the Lancashire Girls’ U16s team.
Abby Clarke and Lucy Valentine, both 15, took a year break from the squad after helping the U14s team win the English Schools Football Association PlayStation U14 Girls Inter County Cup.
Lucy, who at the time was playing for Bolton, and Abby, who plays for Everton, decided to concentrate on playing for their teams as well as representing their school.
Abby said: “At the first trial at Fulwood Amateur Football Club there were about 80 there competing and the second trial was our first day back at school.”
After three trials the number was whittled down to just 23 and for each game 16 members of the team will be selected.
Lucy said: “Along with a few members of the Bolton U16s team, I have switched this season to play for Chorley U18s and I am one of the youngest in the squad.
“Some of the Bolton team members were over age and so had to move and so about 11 of us moved as a team.
“I didn’t think I would get a place in the Lancashire team this time.”
Both Abby and Lucy play centre midfield.
