May 2019: Kickboxers and karate fighter represent England

NEW York’s Niagara Falls will welcome two of our students to the WKKC World Championships in November.

Valley Shorai member Olivia Hanson, 12, earned her place in the karate team at the National Kickboxing Championships in March.

She said: “I did kata and I came second in my category which was for under 11s. I have been learning karate since I was six and I have my 2-stripe purple belt; I just thought I would give the sport a try.

“I have been to the Worlds before and last time it was in Ireland. Because I have entered the finals before I feel okay about it but there will be a lot more people going,”

Max Constant, 14, also secured a place at the world championships after coming third at the same competition Olivia attended.

He attends BJJC Martial Arts at the Adrenaline Centre in Haslingden and will represent England in the -55k continuous.

Max said: “I had to fight 10 other people and the top four got to represent England.”
