March 2019: Girls cricketers bid for county crown

CRICKETERS from Haslingden High School knocked the opposition for six at the regional U15 girls’ indoor cricket final in Blackpool.

The school team won the Rossendale heat and was one of six qualifying teams in the competition at Blackpool Sports Centre.

They were split into two leagues and, after beating the two other teams, Haslingden went through to the final and hit a convincing score of 106 runs to 56.

The team will now compete in the county final at Bolton Arena next Tuesday March 19.

Captain Neve Harris Summers, 13, plays for Lancashire, a mixed Edenfield team and a girls’ team, Brooksbottom which is based in Summerseat.

She said: “The competition was quite easy for us. I play cricket every other day and at the moment I prefer batting and I scored lots of 6s in Blackpool.”

Beth Macdonald, said: “I am more used to playing football than cricket, but it is good getting the chance to play different sports.”

Cricket team: Ella Hall, Lucy Valentine, Beth Hartwell, Abby Clark, Beth Macdonald, Hannah Wilson, Neve Harris Summers, Libby Humphreys and
