February 2018: Year 8s look forward to county athletics final

Our Year 8 athletes narrowly beat All Saints to take the title in the Rossendale School Sports Partnership athletics competition.

The team of seven boys and eight girls will now represent Rossendale in the Lancashire athletics final.

The indoor competition at Fearns Community Sports Hall, Stacksteads, saw students competing in a range of disciplines from standing triple jump and vertical jumps to relay races, distance runs, shot put and more.

Adam Fern has been a member of Rochdale Harriers since he was eight.

He said: “I enjoy athletics because it keeps you fit and healthy. I have always been active and my uncle suggested I join the harriers because he was a member.

“I do cross country and also take part in indoor competitions and outside track events.”

Ollie Webster, a member of Rossendale Harriers, said: “it’s good to race against other people because it is very competitive.”

The team will now compete in the Lancashire Indoor Athletics finals on March 7 at Blackpool Sports Centre, Stanley Park.
