A personalised approach to care, guidance and support

“I’m extremely proud to have children at Haslingden High. I have needed to access the pastoral care team on several occasions over the last four years for my boys and I have always had outstanding support and communication. Thank you for everything you do for our children.” Parent

At Haslingden High School, we adopt a proactive and child-centred approach to safeguarding:

“The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. There is a strong safeguarding culture across the school. Leaders are well informed about a wide range of safeguarding issues. They ensure that safeguarding training for staff is thorough.  As a result, staff know how to identify the signs that may indicate that pupils are at risk of harm..”  Ofsted, 2022

All students are valued as individuals and as members of a tutor group, a house, a year group and of the school. In Year 7, much of the care and support our young learners need is provided by the Form Tutor. Heads of Year and Heads of School oversee all aspects of monitoring and development and any issues are quickly, effectively and sensitively resolved.

One of our greatest strengths is our partnership with parents and carers, who are encouraged to take an active role in their child’s education. Regular communication, both formal and informal, means that students feel secure and supported. We work together to make school a happy, fulfilling and successful experience for our young people, ensuring their emotional wellbeing is our primary focus.

There are times where we may need to seek specialist input from other professionals outside of school and we are proud of our excellent relationships with over 50 external agencies and how we make effective use of the trained mental health practitioners who are based in our school each week. We work hard to secure the best possible outcomes for our students and their families, working closely with a range of professionals to ensure that the right support is offered at the right time.

“The settling in period was made very easy for the pupils due to the attention and care provided by the staff.”   Parent

Becoming a member of the Haslingden High School family

Moving from primary to secondary school can be a daunting prospect for children and for their parents! We place significant emphasis on our transition arrangements and have forged excellent links with our partner primary schools to ensure we have all the necessary information to have the appropriate arrangements in place for your child prior to their arrival.

Our specialist staff and our students visit local primary schools to run workshops and masterclasses; we complement this with opportunities for Year 5 and 6 pupils to visit us for taster sessions and take part in extracurricular activities. So, for many students, their first experience of our school began well before their first day in September.

Our enhanced pastoral care programme in year 7 is designed to ensure that there is always someone available to listen and offer support. We carefully consider individual needs and thoughtfully structure our first few weeks to allow your child to adapt to secondary school life, making it a smooth and stress-free transition for all.

We believe that we should always look to celebrate the diverse achievements of our students, encouraging and motivating them to continue to improve and develop, whilst making students feel part of the Haslingden High School community. We run commendation assemblies, issue regular house points, send achievement postcards home and regularly present school badges, ensuring that no opportunity for celebrating any aspect of our students’ achievements is missed.

We are confident that with the combination of our caring and dedicated staff, alongside your crucial support and expertise as parents, the move to Haslingden High School will be an exciting and successful one for your child.
