THE importance of learning a foreign language was spelt out to Year 8 students at Haslingden High School by a businessman and their MP.
The visit of Rossendale and Darwen MP Jake Berry and Tony Holt, director of Haslingden firm Linemark UK, was arranged by lead teacher in Modern Foreign Languages Sian Nixon.
She said: “I had seen that Jake had spoken in a Parliamentary debate about the need for people to be able to speak modern languages in the Rossendale Valley and how he had meetings with various businesses who has expressed the need for linguists in our area.
“Tony explained to the students that last year his business could have earned an extra £500,000 if he had a little bit more knowledge of French.
“It was quite a key time for the students to have this talk as they are now choosing their GCSE options.”
