January 2017: Party cooks up a treat for pensioners

A FABULOUS Christmas lunch and entertainment was enjoyed by nearly 90 senior citizens at Haslingden High School.

They were treated royally in the Sixth Form Centre where students from Year 12 and 13 waited on them and served a delicious selection of food all prepared by the school’s catering department.

Keith and May Booth, from Helmshore, were attending the lunch for the second time.

May, 79, said: “We came along last year for the first time and it was very nice and we had a good day.

“We couldn’t ask for anything better.”

Keith, 77, said the students were very attentive and said he had enjoyed the meal and the entertainment.

The school’s Big Band provided entertainment before lunch and then the Wind Band presented an afternoon concert.

Head of Year 12 Viv Samuelson praised the hard work put in by the students. She said: “They have been working very hard all morning setting up, decorating the tables and arranging the raffle. Many were in from 9am.”
