FOOTBALLERS from Haslingden High School defeated a team from Halewood Academy, Knowsley, on penalties to win through to the sixth round.
They are competing in the English Schools’ Football Association U14s competition and are now one of just 32 teams left.

Most of the team has been playing together since Year 7 when they got to the last 64 – this year they have already gone one better.
Defender Thomas Walters, 13, has been in the team since Year 7. He said: “We are very capable and as well as practising together we also all play for different teams outside of school.”
Their next match is against a team from The Wirral on January 20, but if they progress in the competition they could face opponents at home or away from anywhere in England.
