June 2016: Scholar of the Year Daniel

Daniel

A STUDENT at Haslingden High School has been awarded Scholar of the Year by mentoring scheme Villiers Park Educational Trust.

Daniel Herterick, 15, started on the course in November and for the next four years he will meet every three weeks with his mentor.

He said: “I was chosen to do the mentoring scheme to help prepare me to get into a good university.

“The mentoring has led to an increase in my confidence, I am better at time keeping and organising myself.

“We went on a residential at Lancaster University. It was good and one of the exercises we did was to design our own university.

“Four students from Haslingden High School went and we were split into teams with people from other schools and my group won the design.”

Daniel also attended a workshop at St Christopher’s CE High School in Accrington where he took part in a philosophy debate.

He was awarded the Scholar of the Year title for excellent attendance and always working hard, particularly in the challenges.

Daniel2Daniel added: “I have a great mentor who has really pushed me to do better. I would like to go to Lancaster University and become an architect or something creative.”
