NETBALLERS from Haslingden High School have been crowned Lancashire champions.
The school’s Under 14s team played in a competition held at Pendle Vale College, Nelson, where the first team they took on was Bowland and lost 7-8.
Erica Clegg, 14, said: “When we lost that first game we were really sad but we went on to draw the second 6-6.”
As the team played the round robin of games they then beat All Hallows, Penwortham, 8-7, Clitheroe Royal Grammar School 5-3 and St Wilfrid’s, Blackburn 9-2.
Sofia Riley said: “It ended up that two teams, us and Bowland, had won three, lost one and drawn one so it all went down to goal difference and because we had scored more goals we were successful. We had never expected to win.”
The team was even more delighted with their success having come second and not won the Rossendale heat.
Robyn Jones, 13, said: “Our goal was just to win one and then we won three.
“We played in all kinds of weather and at one point it was hailstoning on us.”
All the players were awarded medals.
