STAFF and students are bidding to beat a world record by having the most people wearing Christmas jumpers at one time.
The current record is 1,175 and Haslingden High School is hoping to be able to smash that on non-uniform day on Friday December 18.
The school is requesting donations of any unwanted Christmas jumpers and these can be left at reception up to Monday December 7.
Students who are taking part in a Youth Enterprise Challenge are organising the event and money from the non-uniform day will be split between Rossendale Hospice and the school’s Ruby Anniversary celebrations.
Emma Reece-Smith, 15, said: “We have been given £50 and we have events planned to raise even more money for the hospice.
“There are seven in our team and we are holding a table top sale in the Sixth Form Centre on Sunday December 13 from 10am to 2pm with tables costing £10.
“We are also making a friendship cake and will be selling it to people in the community for £1.”
The team are planning a Christmas movie night, selling glow sticks to the audience at the Xmas Factor talent show and holding a silent auction.
Beth Bibby, 14, said: “We hope to raise £5,000 for Rossendale Hospice.”
