ENGLAND handball star Leonah Ellis was honoured to be named as the Rising Star in Rossendale Sports Awards.

Leonah, 15, in Year 11 at Haslingden High School, said: “When they said my name I was shocked because I didn’t think I would win it. There were three of us who had been shortlisted and the others were boys.

“I was nominated last year and shortlisted but was a runner up and so I was delighted to receive the shield this year and see my name on it.”

Leonah not only excels at handball playing for North East Manchester Hawks, Greater Manchester Handball team and representing the North West, she also plays football for Burnley Girls Y15s and has won medals for gymnastics.

At home she has five selves full of trophies and medals for sporting achievements.
