A NEW Head Boy and Head Girl have been announced at Haslingden High School.

Year 12 students James Harding and Laura De’Ath, both 17, were proud to be selected by senior leaders at the school.

James said: “I completed an application form and from there a shortlist of four candidates was drawn up.

“We had to prepare a speech on the contribution we had made to the school and any changes we would like to bring about if we were accepted.

“I suggested that Sixth Form students should get involved in running after school clubs for the lower school.

“Being picked as Head Boy is a position of responsibility and it is a real achievement.”

Laura said: “I had to do a presentation in front of the senior leadership team about the things I would change and I suggested that the school should look to make the move between Year 11 and Sixth Form smoother by getting Year 13 students to go into Year 11.

“I also want to see more recycling around school and want different bins available so we can recycle.”
