ASSISTANT Headteacher at Haslingden High School Gary Wilson took ‘bronze’ in the British Biathlon Challenge for Schools.
Mr Wilson, a PE teacher at the school, entered along with his wife Erika, who was fifth and three pupils from Broadway Primary School: Lucas Bargh, Ruby Farrell and their son Ben.
The modern biathlon involved swimming in the 50m Olympic pool then completing an 800m run in the Olympic Park.
Mr Wilson said: “We attended a qualifier in Lancaster with the pupils and we entered the teachers’ race. From that race only Lucas got through, then as time went on we found out that we had all qualified.
“There were 160 children competing in the events and Ruby, Lucas and Ben all did very well and finished middle of the table.
“Swimming in the Olympic pool was a great experience and on my race I was given the number 1 – when I looked up at the board it listed everyone taking part and it said ‘1 G Wilson’.
“It really was a great event and everyone enjoyed it.”
