AN AMAZING 34 goals were scored in the first four local matches by the new Year 7 boys football team at Haslingden High School.

The team has beaten all their Rossendale rivals in some style trouncing Alder Grange 8-0, All Saints 14-4, BRGS 10-1 and the B team beat Fearns 2-0. They are one of the last eight teams still in the Lancashire Cup after some convincing wins. The last match saw them defeat the current title holders Bishop Rawsthorne 3-1. The 7-a-side team will now play Morecambe on January 30.

The boys have also reached the final stages in the English Schools Football Association Playstation Under 12s 9-a-side Schools Cup, winning their last match against Burnley’s Blessed Trinity 4-1 on penalties. In total 663 teams entered the competition.

PE teacher and football manager Nick Mooney is in an enviable position being able to pick his team from 50 regulars from Year 7 who turn up to training.
