November 2014: Poignant painting ensures sacrifice is never forgotten

A SPECIAL remembrance service was held on Armistice Day at Haslingden High School when a poignant painting by a student was unveiled.

Talented artist Laura Doherty, in Year 12, who has already painted a history classroom, has now created a huge painting showing a soldier walking through Flanders Field.

The painting has been hung in the school’s Remembrance Garden and on Armistice Day students gathered while James Turner, from Year 9, played the Last Post. A two minute silence was observed and poppy wreathes were laid.
