October 2014: London trip inspires GCSE artists

BritishMuseum

A CULTURAL art project at Haslingden High School was brought to life when students visited London.

Several of the 64 Year 10 art students had never been to London before and some had never been on a train.

Head of Visual Arts Sally Tembo said: “The students made a study about the culture as part of a GCSE project.

“They visited the British Museum and were amazed how different central London streets are from the north.

“They noted how busy they are and how diverse the people who live and work there are.

“They were wowed by how big the British Museum was and appreciated the importance of seeing the artefacts first hand for themselves and being able to get so close to them.”

The trip certainly inspired the students and now their classroom is full of photographs and sketches that reflect the trip.
