Every penny counts as school raises cash for hospice

STUDENTS from our school smashed their previous record breaking collection for Rossendale Hospice by more than £500.

For the fourth year running the school has the accolade for raising the most for Rossendale Hospice in the annual Penny Pinching Appeal after collecting £1,375.

Our charity club Help Haslingden Support Charities and its enthusiastic members are excellent at encouraging generous donations for good causes.

The group’s teacher mentor Miss Southee said: “Our school’s previous record was £800 and they so wanted to reach £1,000 this year. They could not believe it when the final total was £1,375.

“I am very proud of the team, this is a fantastic amount and one which has blown the group away.”

Fund-raising manager at Rossendale Hospice Sam Morris said: “This year’s event has been a huge success for the hospice both in the total raised – more than £6,000 – and the information schools have cascaded down to students and parents.

“Thank you very much to everybody who got involved and especially to the charity team who encourage everyone to support us.”
